About the Department


Bajaur was a princely state run by the Nawab of Khar the Last and prominent Khan was Nawab Abdul Subhan Khan till 1990. District Bajaur comes in the jurisdiction of Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since, 1973. It remained an Agency of the erstwhile FATA till May 2018. There was British colonial era established law was enacted since 1901 i.e. FCR-1901 later amended in 2011. After 25th constitutional amendment it became a tribal District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According the census 2017, population of the District is 1093684 and total area of the district is 1290 Square kilometer. It has 52 KM border in the name of Dewrand Line to its western side with Afghanistan. There are two sub-divisions i.e. Khar and Nawagai, both comprises of 08 Tehsils. Borders of the District are attached with Mohmand Tribal District at the south-west and with Dir Lower at the East. After 25th amendment in the constitution it became a tribal district and merged with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The hierarchy  of the Department is as  Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Two Assistant Commissioners (Khar/Nawagai) and eight Tehsildars and their Sub-ordinate staff.
